Welded Mesh Reinforcing

Welded mesh reinforcing is a convenient and cost effective alternative to conventional bar reinforcement for the following reasons :

  1. The mesh is generally specified and manufactured according to standard references making for easy site identification, quality control and management.
  2. The mesh is manufactured in sheets or rolls resulting in a quick and simple site installation process.

Although generally used in surface beds (concrete floor slabs on fill) and concrete roads, mesh can also be used in suspended floor slabs, concrete walls, culverts / drains and composite brick / concrete retaining walls.

RMS is one of the few manufacturers of welded mesh in Southern Africa, which has a full SANS 9001 : 2000 quality rating. The manufacture process is as follows:

  1. Mittal Steel supply RMS with medium-low carbon mild steel rod
  2. The mild steel rod is cold rolled by RMS to the required diameter to form high tensile wire
  3. The high tensile wires are welded into a rectangular mesh grid fabric

Design Mesh
Where there is a significant amount of repetition, conventional bar reinforcement designs can be substituted by design mesh. RMS has the facility to implement this process in conjunction with the project engineer. The premanufacturing of the design mesh results in :-

  1. Easier site control and less skills required on site
  2. Quicker installation compared to that of conventional reinforcing
