Reinforcing
The RMS group is supplied with reinforcing bar from Mittal Steel, the world's largest steel producer. The bars are supplied in standard diameters, lengths and grades of steel as per the following:-
High tensile steel (SANS 920:2005 - 450Mpa) - denoted by the letter "Y", deformed bar
| Diameters available (mm) |
8; 10; 12; 16; 20; 25; 32 and 40mm |
Mild steel (SANS 920:2005 - 250Mpa) - denoted by the letter "R", smooth bar
| Diameters available (mm) |
8; 10; 12; 16; 20; 25; 32 and 40mm |
Standard Lengths which are available for both Grades
13m; 12m
Note : Special diameters, lengths and grades are available on request.
RMS cuts and bends the bar at one of it's yards to the SANS 282/2004 specification.
The finished product can then be delivered and installed as per the accepted quotation.
Using well maintained and modern equipment, delivery times are kept to a minimum.
Bending Schedules
RMS will generally cut and bend the bar according to the bending schedules supplied by the customer. Where bending schedules are not available, RMS has the expertise to assist with the drawing-up of bending schedules and using these for quotation and production purposes. All bending schedules should refer to the standard Shape Codes as per the table below:
Shape Code Table (SANS 282:2004, Edition 5.1)

NOTE1: Use shape code 99 for all other shapes. A dimensioned sketch of the shape shall be given in the bending schedule.
NOTE2: Radii of all bends are standard unless r is given in the bending schedule.
NOTE3: All dimensions are external (outside) dimensions.
Site Installation / Steel Fixing
As part of RMS's affirmative action policy, the site installation and tying of reinforcing is predominantly carried out by previously disadvantaged subcontractors who are closely assisted and managed by a competent team of RMS supervisors. |
